Oops...our bad

Damn submarines just running amok out there.

At least that sort of thing is understandable as to why it could happen. This, on the other hand, is completely incomprehensible to me. Anyone else understand?

Little port holes might not be a bad idea after all. Looks like you guys got suckered by the sonar salesman. "Nah, you don't need no stinking windows. You can drive by 'sound'...like magic."

The more submarines we sell to foreign countries, the more submarines we have to have to track them, and the more submarines EB gets to build, the happier Simmons' constituents are, and the more likely he'll get re-elected. What downside could there possibly be?

is there a reason why they have to be diesel?

Well, sure, I can see where Simmons would think it's a good plan...I just can't see why anyone would want to go along with him.

They have to be diesel because the only other kind of submarine propulsion system would be nuclear, and we don't share our nuclear propulsion info with anybody. Not that they'd be able to make any sense out of it, anyway.

Read a good column the other day that was wondering why in the world Taiwan would want to buy from us. We haven't made diesel subs in something like 20 years; meanwhile, other countries like Germany have pretty much perfected the diesel design and are now selling to everyone for very reasonable rates (enter "german type 209" or "german type 212" into Google).
